What is the Internship Forum?

Internships are a core component of students’ academic and professional journeys, acting as the intersection of the two. It is through internships that students are actively engaged in the concepts and theories that they learn in the classroom and put their education into practice. It’s also the mechanism for career discovery and self discovery. 

The annual Internship Forum is designed to help you navigate the internship search process and learn how to maximize the experience. Past interns will share their own experiences and tips, and employers will be present to showcase available internship opportunities.

On Wednesday, February 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. the Hub will be hosting this year’s Internship Forum (RSVP NOW), although—like many of the internships that will be promoted there—it will be virtual. 

 

Who will be attending?

The 2021 Internship Forum is designed to answer foundational questions like: “How do I get an internship?”, “How do I maximize my internship experience?” and, “How do I leverage my recent work experience towards next steps in my academic and career journey?” 

The people answering them? Former virtual interns coupled with a variety of employers that include Planned Parenthood, Red Ventures, Peace Corps, Teradata, Clean Water action, and 826michigan—students will have an array of perspectives to learn from.

Utilizing the interactive platform Career Fair Plus, students will create a custom profile to showcase their abilities, experiences, and skills. During the event, they can connect directly with interns and employers via individual or group video calls, simultaneously networking and expanding their internship knowledge. Why should I attend?

All LSA students are encouraged to attend. For any LSA student considering an internship this summer or in the future, the Internship Forum is an opportunity to hear directly from peers about how to find the internship for you, while simultaneously networking with key Hub employers.

In a time full of uncertainty, former interns offer a tangible look at our new reality. How can I prepare for this event?

To ensure that students are getting the most out of their Internship Forum experience, the Hub has compiled a variety of resources to utilize prior to the forum. 

  • Study up. Get helpful insights and tips from past interns via the Hub’s Canvas site. Students will have access to 15 student presentation videos, a list of active internship opportunities, and coaching tools to help prioritize which recruiters to talk to.

  • Support designed for you. If you want guidance on refining your resume, developing questions for employers, building an elevator pitch, or anything else in preparation for the fairs, you can schedule a virtual coaching appointment or access virtual drop-ins to work 1-on-1 with a Hub coach.
