ELI Summer Programs

Summer 2021

Please note: We are hoping to hold ELI Summer Programs in person in Summer 2021 if conditions permit. However, the safety of students and faculty is our highest priority, so we are also prepared to deliver high-quality intensive language experiences online.  We will carefully monitor conditions and make a final decision by February 1, 2021.

The English Language Institute offers two full-time intensive academic English summer programs for students who are advanced non-native speakers of English and who have been admitted to a degree program at the University of Michigan or another college or university in the United States.

In ELI Summer Programs, you will learn and practice the specific language skills you need to communicate effectively in diverse academic environments. You will also learn about the culture of the US university environment so that you can easily transition into your degree program in the fall. You will gain a wider understanding of the US university system, instructor expectations, and student responsibilities.

Small class size and student-teacher conferences provide you with with extensive individual attention. A certificate of completion is awarded to participants who fulfill all program requirements.

Click on the links below for specific information about each program.

IMPORTANT: The EAP and EBS Programs do NOT provide teacher preparation for Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) who will be teaching in classrooms and labs and do not fulfill any GSI-related requirements. For information about these resources, please visit ELI's GSI Program page or contact Brenda Imber (prousimb@umich.edu).
