About
At U-M, I teach courses on writing and literature for the Sweetland Center for Writing, the Department of English Language and Literature, and -- now -- LSWA. My Ph.D. research focused on medieval literature, as well as translation and multilingualism in the medieval world and beyond. While these topics sometimes show up in my teaching of writing, I especially love working with students to develop critical reading and writing skills in relation to the texts and phenomena that most interest them, even or especially pop culture and social media. I'm also a champion of "arts" that aren't always recognized as such -- or else are seen as secondary or derivative in some way -- like translation, adaptation, and criticism.
