Each student must enroll in one LSWA course per term, participate in one LSWA club of choice (1 hr/week), attend three community meetings per semester, and submit a minimum of three creative works of choice (any medium) in the Fall term.

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2023-2024 academic year. Information about applying to join LSWA for the 2024-2025 academic year will be released on our How to Apply page in March 2024!  

You will receive the Housing Application link after you pay your enrollment deposit. The Housing Application is separate from the MLC Application.

• LSWA has no foreign language requirement
• LSWA is a 1st-year program w/ optional 2nd year
• RC is a four-year commitment
• RC only admits LSA students; LSWA admits students from any school (Engineering, A&D, SMTD, etc…)
  

No, students will select either LSWA or the RC. You may apply to an MLC such as LSWA if you have already applied to the RC, but if admitted to both programs, you must select either the RC or LSWA.

Yes, but you will not be in the Honors residential program; as an LSWA student, you must live in a designated LSWA space in Alice Lloyd Hall and can take Honors courses.

Yes, you will live in an LSWA-designated space on a floor mixed with LSWA and non-LSWA students. ALH is recently renovated and contains single and double rooms, modern study spaces, an art studio, a dance studio, a Sweetland Writing Center satellite office, and more!

Your roommate must be a member of LSWA. A roommate preference can be listed on the Housing Application, but will only be honored if both students have been accepted into LSWA.

Yes! We admit students with interests/strengths in either area, and in all genres. Examples include writing, film, photography, art, theater, music, dance, etc.

Yes, you may rush any Sorority or Fraternity during the Winter term, as long as you are able to balance your time commitments and honor your LSWA responsibilities.

LSWA courses will fulfill the FYWR with options for CE/RE. You may develop close relationships with professors and peers, explore and expand your creative potential, meet professional writers/artists, be published in the LSWA journal, be connected to unique campus opportunities, and much more! Your home on campus will be a community of students with diverse talents, backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and ideas, but who also share a love of writing and the arts. Together, and with the support of a dedicated team of Student Leaders and staff, you'll create a warm and close-knit community where everyone feels that they belong.
