All first-year LSWA students are required to:
- Take one LSWA course in fall term
- LSWA 125 (College Writing) – fulfills the First-Year Writing Requirement
- LSWA 126 (Community-Engaged Writing) – fulfills the First-Year Writing Requirement
- LSWA 140 (Arts and Humanities), recommended for students required to fulfill their FYWR in a different course (e.g., Honors and Engineering). If you are an Honors or Engineering student, please contact LSWA staff during registration at [email protected].
- Take one LSWA course during winter term
- LSWA 130 (Writing and the Arts I, fulfills Creative Expression)
- LSWA 140 (Art in Public Spaces, fulfills Creative Expression)
- LSWA 228 (What Is Writing, fulfills Race & Ethnicity and Humanities)
- LSWA 230 (Writing and the Arts II, fulfills Creative Expression, satisfies a prerequisite for the Minor in Writing)
- Participate in an LSWA club
- Clubs are run by Student Leaders and meet weekly
- Past writing/arts clubs have included: Arts and Literary Journal; Creative Writing; Dance; Film; Music; Photography; Poetry; Printmaking; Storybuilding; Fiber Arts; Drawing; and more!
- Attend three all-community events each semester (typically Wednesday evenings 7-8pm, with occasional exceptions for special events).
- Submit three favorite pieces of writing, photography, or art to be considered for the Arts and Literary Journal
Please note: Program requirements and active participation are necessary to remain in the program and in the residence hall.
