Macroeconomics is one of the largest fields at Michigan. We have ten faculty with primary appointments in the department who work in this field, and several other faculty who work in areas closely related to macroeconomics. Macroeconomics at Michigan is very data and policy oriented, using state-of-the-art methods to address relevant issues. All students are required to take one year of macroeconomics in their first year and pass a preliminary examination in macro theory. We also offer a second year field sequence for students specializing in this field. One of the core strengths of macroeconomics is that we can leverage the data available through the Institute for Social Research, and the Census Data Center at Michigan.
