The decomposition theorem is a general result about the topology of maps between complex algebraic varieties. Hodge theory, and in particular Morihiko Saito's theory of Hodge modules, allows one to apply such topological results to problems in algebraic geometry. In the talk, I will show a few examples of such applications. Speaker(s): Christian Schnell (Stony Brook University)
