The fundamental group of the complement of a curve C in P^2 arises when we consider covers of P^2 whose branch locus is C. We will compute these fundamental groups for some specific examples. We will also describe how the singularities of C (e.g. nodes vs cusps) affect the relations in the fundamental group. Speaker(s): Karen Butt (UM)
