Geospatial Science

Effective Fall 2024

Exclusions:

A minor in Geospatial Sciences is not open to students with any major or any other minor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Advising

Department advising is available to prospective and declared students within the minor. Appointments can be scheduled online: https://lsa.umich.edu/earth/undergraduate-students/advising.html. Students may meet with advisors either in-person or online.

Prerequisites

  • EARTH 132
  • MATH 115 (or equivalent introductory calculus course)

Requirements

Minimum Credits: 15

Introductory Courses (2 courses; a minimum of 7 credits)

(1) EARTH 133 (4 credits)

(2) One of the following:

  • EARTH 119 (3 credits)
  • EARTH 201 (4 credits)
  • EARTH 202 (6 credits)
  • EARTH 219 (3 credits)
  • EARTH 230 (3 credits)
  • EARTH 240 (4 credits)

Upper-Level Courses (2 courses; a minimum of 8 credits)

(1) EARTH 408 (4 credits)

(2) One of the following:

  • EARTH 440 (6 credits)
  • EARTH 468 (4 credits)
  • EARTH 484 (4 credits)

Alternatives to the courses listed above may exist. Students should speak with a department advisor if interested in taking an alternative course to meet a minor requirement. 

Residency

At least 9 out of the 15 credits for the minor must be taken in-residence.
