URGE has four primary objectives. They are to:
- Deepen the Geoscience community’s knowledge of the effects of racism on the participation and retention of People of Color in the discipline
- Draw on existing literature, expert opinions, and personal experiences to develop anti-racist policies and resources
- Share, discuss, and modify anti-racist policies and resources within a dynamic community network and on a national stage
- Implement and assess anti-racist policies and resources within Geoscience workplaces
URGE Pods
URGE provided pods with an anti-racist curriculum that aimed to deepen the community’s knowledge of the effects of racism on the participation and retention of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people in geoscience. This curriculum drew on existing literature, expert opinions, and personal experiences to help participating pods develop anti-racist policies and strategies. Pods shared their developed anti-racist policies and strategies with the rest of the geoscience community.
