Supporting the Department

We can’t do what we do without your support! From field trips to student research to Camp Davis scholarships, your generosity makes our department hum. We are grateful for your passion and your generosity!

Earth and Environmental Sciences thrives on experiential education. There is no substitute for hands-on learning – in the field, the lab, or the collections. Our vision for experiential education is inclusive, elevating, and comprehensive across career stages.

Earth Camp introduces high school students from southeastern Michigan to the natural wonders of our home state and the jaw-dropping splendor of the Tetons, balancing environmental and Earth science with college readiness preparation. Your generosity makes this program possible.

Camp Davis provides an unforgettable educational experience for both non-majors and majors, in an inspirational setting near Jackson, Wyoming. Virtually all of our majors, and many students from other departments, participate in month-long field education at Camp, where we offer introductory through capstone classes in a comfortable and inclusive camp environment.

Field trips engage undergraduate and graduate students in transformative experiences locally, across the USA, and internationally. Field trips help our students solidify skills and concepts, both as part of semester-long classes and as stand-alone multi-week excursions. Recent trips, led by department faculty, include Brazil, South Africa, and the Southwestern US. Your support makes these trips possible.

Undergraduate research offers students the chance to gain valuable experiences mentored by our faculty and researchers working in labs, workstations, and the field. We provide support for student salaries and research expenses.

Student scholarships make our experiential educational activities available to all students, regardless of financial resources. We provide need-based financial aid for students attending Camp Davis and the department field trips.

Strategic funds for the department and for Camp Davis allow us to support areas of emerging or greatest needs.
