Nicholas Henriksen has been named an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor. Each year, five tenured faculty at the University of Michigan are named Thurnau Professors for their strong dedication to teaching as well as their contribution to the education and lives of their students.
Nick has created multiple courses in the Romance Languages and Literatures Department that incorporate linguistic concepts, research, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, while encouraging students to explore topics that spark their interests. He also co-founded the Speech Production Lab in 2015, an intergenerational team which has allowed over 150 students to conduct linguistic research through many projects over the years. Additionally, Nick has advocated for teaching nonbinary language forms in the Romance language curriculum.
