Interdisciplinary Workshops

The Graduate School provides extensive funding for graduate-led workshops that involve participants from at least two different departments. They can be as simple as money for food and books that sustain a monthly reading or writing group, or as ambitious as funding to invite outside speakers or host a conference. Often the two are combined, with a reading group meeting for a year or two prior to a culminating visit or conference. In addition, student leaders are paid for their work. Information can be found at

The department’s students engage actively in these interdisciplinary workshops, including:Animal Studies, Mediterranean Topographies, Avant-Garde Interest Group, Forum for Research in Medieval Studies, Deleuze Interest Group, Interdisciplinary Marxism Working Group, Museum Studies, Border Collective, Coalition for Interdisciplinary Research on Latino/a Issues, Digital Studies, Doing Queer Studies Now, Luso-Hispanic Intersections Group, New Materialisms Working Group, Religion in Premodern Europe and Early America Workshop, Transnational Comics Studies Workshop, Visual Culture Workshop, and many others.
