Giving to the Department of Film, Television, and Media

Help Make A Difference!

The Department of Film, Television, and Media has become the model for excellence in studies and production integration at universities throughout the country. Maintaining our educational excellence requires significant financial investment. You can make a difference in the lives of our students and professors.

Giving Initiatives: FTVM Student Film Productions

FTVM’s Student Production Fund supports our most advanced productions, including the two films we send annually to the Traverse City Film Festival. Your donation helps make Michigan one of the nation’s top undergraduate Film, Television and Media programs!

Giving Initiatives: The Film, Television, and Media Strategic Fund

This fund gives the Department's Chair the flexibility to meet wide range of needs—whether it's purchasing equipment, funding students in need, or supporting our student's own initiatives.

A gift to our Strategic Fund supports:

Doctoral Students

Help us train the next generation of Film, Television, and Media professors. Our Doctoral Student Fund helps students purchase important books and videos, take research trips to archives, present their work at academic conferences, and meets their everyday needs. A major endowment would allow us to expand the cohort from two to three students a year, but small donations are welcome.*

The Donald Hall Collection (DHC)

The Hall Collection is an unique archive of its kind in the country, boasting 18,000 DVDs and 3,000 screenplays and counting. It is also a highly valuable resource for our students, so it must be kept current in order to meet their needs. The DHC also accepts screenplays, press kits, videos, and DVDs. If you wish to donate items, please e-mail DHC Librarian Phillip Hallman at phallman@umich.edu. An annual gift of any amount, or a $200,000 endowment, will provide the funds necessary to purchase new materials (35mm and 16mm films, DVD’s, and scripts) and maintain the quality of the Collection.*

Technology/Equipment for Production Coursework

State-of-the-art equipment is essential if FTVM students are to be proficient in the use of advanced technology. Purchasing and maintaining the technology is expensive, but central to the quality of the education that the Department of Film, Television, and Media provides.

Giving Initiatives: The Screenwriting Program Fund

Each year, the Department brings distinguished professional screenwriters, producers, directors, and editors to campus to give students access to the best in the field. During their one- to-three day visits, these working artists teach classes, critique student work, present screenings and lead discussions of their own work. The goal is to sponsor eight to ten visits per year. Gifts of $3,000 to $10,000 will fund a single visit by a working artist.
