Registration for Fall 2021

Q: What will the 2021-22 academic calendar look like?

Q: What format will the Fall 2021 classes be and how can I attend? 

A: The University of Michigan will return to campus for the fall term with most classes taught in person, residence halls open at nearly 80 percent capacity, athletics events with fans in the stands and the campus community abuzz with activity. Please check the schedule of classes for up-to-date information about each course.

Q: What is a hybrid class? 

A: A hybrid class is a class that has both online sessions and in-person sessions. The in-person element may differ in quantity from section to section, and is dependent on the phase.  

General Registration

Q: How do I request permission to enroll in a course?

A: For Data Science Master's students, contact mdsprogram@umich.edu to request permission. For Applied Statistics Master's and AMDP students, contact masprogram@umich.edu.

Q: What is the process to audit a course?

A: Contact the Department Office to request permission to audit. You will also need permission from the instructor prior to registering to audit a course.

Q: What are the drop/add deadlines for courses?

A: The Academic Calendar will have the drop/add deadlines for courses.

Graduation

Q: What is the minimum GPA to graduate?

A: The minimum cumulative GPA to graduate is 3.0 (B on the graduate scale).

Q: What is the deadline to apply for a conferral of my Master’s degree?

A: Master's degree diploma application deadlines can be found here. Exceptions to the deadline cannot be made.

Q: How do I apply for a conferral of my Master’s degree?

A: Master’s students must apply to graduate via Wolverine Access ahead of the last day of classes in the term in which they intend to graduate.

Q: Where can I find information about commencement?

A: Information about commencement can be found on the Commencement website. Due to the current global pandemic, commencement exercises are TBD for 2020-21. Please watch for updates from the department and University.

Q: How can I invite my parents to graduation if they need a visa to enter the US?

A: For information regarding preparing for commencements, please visit the Rackham Graduate Exercises website. Due to the current global pandemic, commencement exercises are TBD for 2020-21. Please watch for updates from the department and University.

Q: What kind of academic gowns and hoods should I get for graduation?

A: For a listing of Academic Gowns, Hoods, and Colors can be found here. The Cap and Robe should be black and the hood and tassel should be white. Due to the current global pandemic, commencement exercises are TBD for 2020-21. Please watch for updates from the department and University.
