My Brotherhood or My Brother? How Fraternities React to Protests Against Sexual Assault

Description of research project:

This project is part of a mixed-methods dissertation study on normative masculinity, friendships between men in college, and the organizational culture of fraternities. The SURO lab in the Winter 2024 semester will focus on a set of 15-20 second round interviews with fraternity men conducted between October-December 2023.

Description of Work:

Students on this project will be responsible for cleaning interview transcripts and submitting short narrative summaries of respondent demographics, notable anecdotes, and other relevant details. Students will be trained on data management and cleaning through weekly lessons and light reading on qualitative methods. The SURO lab will meet in person for one hour each week for regular supervision. The time of this meeting will be determined once lab members are selected. In addition, interested students may have the opportunity to participate in literature review work and learn about developing an empirical peer-reviewed article based on interview data. Opportunities for co-authoring public facing writing and/or conference abstract proposals may also be available depending on student interest and performance.
