The OS Student Pathway

Organizations are complex and because they are important in almost all aspects of our lives, they lend themselves to study from many perspectives. While the Interdisciplinary Program in Organizational Studies builds a strong foundation in economic, psychological, and sociological perspectives on organizations, the major also allows you considerable freedom to craft your education to cater to your interests.

Because the curriculum is so rich and the areas of interests so diverse, OS has created a planning tool called the OS Pathway. This tool is designed to help students navigate through the array of available courses in order to accomplish the educational goals each student develops.

An OS Pathway is created individually by each student, and consists of a paragraph describing your interests and goals, as well as a list of cluster courses that you think will best help you reach those goals. It is a set of flexible guidelines, rather than a set of rigid requirements, and OS will provide focused guidance in creating your Pathway. Your pathway can incorporate courses that you have already taken, but can also strike out in new directions as your interests and goals evolve.

We encourage you to view the Pathway paragraphs of current OS students, as they can serve as a guide, giving you ideas for how to structure your own path through OS. But remember, your Pathway is your own creation and you do not need to make fit into an existing category. We'll create a new category for you if needed!
