GIEU Bolivia — Urban Agriculture & Community Development

  • City: Cochabamba
  • Term: Total of 2 credits for on-campus Winter course and field experience in Summer
  • Instruction in: English
  • Requirements: Graduating Seniors cannot apply

GIEU students will volunteer with the Alerta Verde Foundation, a community organization that aims to improve the quality of life for current and future generations through environmental projects of awareness, education, research and development in urban and rural areas. Cochabamba has recently faced debilitating water issues due to rapid population increase, causing many problems for farmers and food supply; as such the importance of learning how to maintain an urban garden or greenhouse using water responsibly is ever more important. Among the community projects GIEU students will assist in the development of organic and sustainable agriculture, waste management, mitigating the effects of climate change, and raising environmental awareness in general.
