About
Asa’s research focuses on South Asian languages and the diaspora, in particular he is interested in the dichotomy between standard and vernacular Punjabi as well as the Punjabi and Sikh diasporas. His research seeks to understand the formation of spoken Punjabi, with the intention of creating pedagogical frameworks around this. He also studies the diasporic cultural, linguistic, and religious experiences of the South Asian diaspora in the UK and Europe, with a focus on the Punjabi (Indian and Pakistani) and Sikh diasporas.
Prior to coming to Michigan, Asa taught French and German at St Dunstan’s College in London, and Punjabi at King’s College London.
