The Learning and Teaching Consultants assist with course building and effective pedagogical use of the LSA instructional environment. Consultants work to support faculty while new activities or tools are deployed in practice, and help instructors rework their activities when necessary.
Faculty can meet with our consultants one-on-one to connect their learning objectives with available tools to achieve those objectives. We are also available to meet with instructors to discuss:
How to integrate pedagogical techniques like active learning and flipped classrooms
Effective use of online learning platforms, including Canvas, social learning tools, and communication tools, for your activities and assessments
Best pedagogical approaches to using student engagement tools such as iClicker, Catchbox, and chat tools
How to use course blogs and websites for course activities
Grant opportunities and funding
Support for innovative student projects and assessments, including multimedia projects
Implementing new learning technology to meet your course learning goals
How to take advantage of LSA’s new classrooms and innovative teaching and learning facilities
LTC also offers pre-term workshops in August and January, designed to help instructors get ready for the new term, learn any new tools that may be available, and address any new circumstances or requirements of the LSA learning and teaching landscape. You can find our workshops on the TTC website, under Upcoming Sessions. LTC also sends out announcements and reminders on our Events mailing list; you can subscribe to it at the bottom of the page.
Our annual Learning & Teaching Seminar Series offers opportunities for LSA instructors to dig deeper into current teaching issues and do some hands-on work on their own course materials during the session. Seminar sessions are also announced on the Events mailing list, and you can find recordings of past sessions on the website.
During Fall and Winter, LTC also sends a brief Teaching Tip of the Week, each one linked to a longer blog post. The Tips range from how-tos for LSA teaching tools, to recommendations for particular teaching approaches, to overviews of recent pedagogical debates. You can read back-entries on our website, and subscribe to the mailing list at the bottom of this page.
