LSA Technology Services wants every member of our team to be their best self. We sponsor and run several programs within our organization to support the well-being and professional growth and development of our team members. These programs are also a great way for us to work on and embody our organizational values.

Deep Work Days

Taking place once per month, Deep Work Days are set aside for all LSA Technology Services team members to focus on creative thought, projects, process improvements, problem solving, and learning with a minimum of distractions and disruptions. These days allow us to focus on Doing What We Said We Would Do by having dedicated time to reach our goals.

On-the-spot Appreciation

There are often unplanned times when our team members step in and step up to provide exceptional and impactful, unexpected service and support to show that They’ve Got Your Back and that we are Stronger Together. One way to share our gratitude is through an ‘On-the-spot Appreciation’ program where Supervisors can offer staff a choice of some LSA Technology Services swag, intended for immediate and ad-hoc appreciation.

Building Mental Fitness with Calm.com

We Seek to Understand and be Understood while Learning What’s Important to Others by valuing the well-being of each team member. All full time, temporary, and student team members will receive a free subscription to Calm.com, which gives you unlimited access to the full library of content via the website and the Calm app.

Working Groups

All team members are encouraged to be a part of any working group that interests them and help shape our organization’s environment. Working Groups help encourage team building, recognition, improving our well-being, and exploring diversity, equity, and inclusion. They also allow staff to become Lifelong Explorers by trying something new and Find Joy, Daily by coming up with creative ways to engage with the entire organization.

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)

Providing an inclusive environment is a commitment we have as members of the University, LSA, and Technology Services community. Our DEI working group helps us to better ourselves and our work environment by organizing training and providing programs and activities focused on DEI best practices. The team has put together learning sessions in partnership with several of U-M’s resources, for example, Women in History, Disability Culture, and Pronouns 101.

Team Building

This group plans and implements activities to enable and encourage team members to get to know others, both personally and professionally, and have fun at the same time, while learning about what other team members do. Past events included renting a pavilion at Gallup Park and kayaking, playing games at Pinball Pete’s, bowling at Revel and Roll, playing trivia, and even showcasing each other’s baking and cooking talents.

Staff Recognition

We think that the best recognition one receives is that from your peers. Our Staff Recognition program is run by staff for staff. The program recognizes the individual and collective contributions of LSA Technology Services’ staff that exemplify or demonstrate growth in our organizational values and demonstrate the impact and results on our strategic initiatives. Ceremonies are held several times during the year and all team members are encouraged to nominate their colleagues and attend to learn about the amazing things being accomplished throughout our organization.

Newsletter

This group produces and sends positive, proactive service news and announcements to our LSA community to help educate and encourage the use of our services, while also highlighting team members to connect our team and people to the college. The team coordinates interviews with team members to write engaging pieces that truly showcase our organization. Participating on the Newsletter team is a great way to learn more about our organization, hone your editing skills, enhance your writing skills, learn how to build pages on our website, and use email marketing tools.

Wellbeing

This team encourages and enables all of us to improve our wellbeing and strive for healthy lifestyles so we can be at our best at work and at home through education of healthy behaviors and support resources that are available at the university. They also promote wellbeing, illness and injury prevention, and disease management. The group organizes walks throughout the summer, brings in relaxing learning sessions such as Zentangle, and has held a book club to read Keep Sharp by Sanjay Gupta.

Additional University Benefits

LSA Technology Services is also part of the Michigan IT community which aims to build community, foster skills and professional development, and enhance innovation across U-M’s IT professionals.

The University of Michigan offers flexible work options to employees and offers competitive benefits to support the health and well-being of all team members.
