LSA Victors

Our largest-ever fundraising campaign is ambitious, visionary, purposeful, and worthy of the name “Victors.” The $400 million goal prioritizes our students, our state, and our world. Our alumni are the most powerful example we have of how an LSA education can impact everything—from jobs to relationships to global change—and why supporting it is a worthy cause. Our alumni are the engines that will drive our campaign forward.

Why $400 million?  We’re picking up where the State left off.

In the 1960s, state funding made up 80 percent of U-M’s general fund budget. By 2014, the state appropriation had dropped to less than 17 percent. As the largest of U-M’s 19 schools and colleges, LSA feels this pinch disproportionately, yet our goal remains steadfast: to keep education affordable and accessible through increases in student support. Scholarships make it possible for the most talented and deserving students not only to attend the University of Michigan, but also to stay focused on what they’re learning rather than how they’ll pay back a loan.

Our world is changing.

From melting polar ice caps to the number of jobs the average U.S. worker will have in his or her lifetime (it’s around 10.8 currently), to rapidly increasing amounts of data exposure, it’s a complex world out there, and LSA is determined to equip students to both understand and change it. LSA is facing this brave new world head-on by committing unprecedented dollars to research expenditures, readying students for global education by funding study abroad programs, and providing internships for hands-on work outside the classroom.

The College is committed to the greater good.

Our campaign goal isn’t just to transform our campus, but our communities, as well. LSA combines rigorous academics with public engagement through such programs as Semester in Detroit, the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, the Residential College's Telling It teaching initiative, and more. Whether it’s helping grow sustainable food, tutoring at-risk kids, or bringing the arts to locations that otherwise wouldn’t have them, LSA students and faculty make an impact far beyond campus and the classroom.

Off campus, on point.

Through internships, students sharpen the interpersonal skills, flexibility, and analytical agility they learn on campus in ways that will be assets to future employers.

  • Nearly $725,000 awarded for internships in 2015-16
  • Over 375 students supported 2015-16
  • Posted over 1600 internship opportunities 2015-16

Every gift matters.

Eighty-four percent of donors to the Victors for Michigan campaign have given $1,000 or less.
