About LSA Today

LSA Today is published by LSA Advancement in the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and Arts. We email this newsletter quarterly to approximately 120,000 faculty, staff, alumni, and friends.

The LSA Today e-newsletter contains links with a non-U-M address
This is because LSA Today uses a third-party email service to manage communications to our large alumni base.

We use an outside mailing service in order to:

  • Avoid duplicate mailings
  • Track usage so that we understand what content our readers like
  • Work to limit the amount of clutter in recipients’s inboxes by ensuring that no one person receives too many LSA emails.

Users with technical knowledge know that some email scams (known as“phishing” scams) send emails that appear to be from a trusted source, but which redirects users to phony websites. LSA Today’s newsletter is authentic and its links, though tracked by a third-party system, land only on U-M web pages.

LSA and the University of Michigan considered the possibility that its e-newsletters could be perceived as phishing scams. In the end, we determined that the system’s value outweighed the uncertainty that some users might feel about the redirected links.

More information is available below through the University of Michigan Office of Development (OUD) policy regarding the release of donor and alumni information.
