Senior Counsel, Arnold & Porter

Steve Diamond is a senior counsel at Arnold & Porter, following his retirement from the partnership and full time practice at the end of 2021. His career spans more than 40 years and encompasses all facets of government contracts law, including mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions involving government contractors; defense in government audits, investigations, and enforcement actions; bid protest and claims litigation; subcontracts disputes; commercial arbitration; suspension and debarment proceedings; joint ventures, teaming and subcontracting; classified contracts; representation before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States; FMS and FMF contracts; international and World Bank procurement matters, securing and protecting intellectual property rights and technology licensing; and development of corporate compliance programs. He has represented US and non-US firms, from start-ups to FORTUNE 10 companies, dedicated government contractors and commercial companies, as well as U.S. and foreign government entities.

Mr. Diamond’s practice covers a broad range of industries, including aerospace and defense; professional and technical services; pharmaceuticals; biotech; healthcare; medical device and equipment; information technology; telecommunications; finance; transportation; and consumer products. He lectures at numerous companies and industry conferences on government contracting, regulatory compliance, and mergers and acquisitions. He also has an active pro bono practice, including representation of major international NGOs and nonprofits. Mr. Diamond earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees at the U-M, and also attended Stanford Law School. In addition to the LSA DAC, Mr. Diamond has been a member of the Political Science Advisory Board and serves on the LSA Honors Program Alumni Council.

He met his wife, Lisa, at Michigan (B.A. 1978) and their sons, Michael and Jeffrey, are also Michigan graduates (’08 and ’11). They enjoy skiing, travel, hiking, biking, swimming, and most anything outdoors. They are also avid readers, political junkies, love music (jazz, rock, symphony, and opera) and are passionate Michigan sports fans.
