PELLSTON — The University of Michigan Biological Station held its annual Fourth of July celebration this week.

Students, staff, scientists, alumni and their families enjoyed food, fun and games along Douglas Lake. The picnic included tug-of-war, water balloon toss and relay races.

“Camp kids” decorated their own bikes for the parade, and Rose Reynolds-Tallant and Lucas Price even played Katy Perry's "Firework" on a violin on a float.

Different UMBS labs dressed up in field gear and made signs to march in the parade.

Gathering together on Independence Day is a beloved tradition for the historic field station in northern Michigan.
