This is part of our Summer Lecture Series. It is free and open to the public.
Where does art meet science? Through literature and other creative media, Laurie Allmann illuminates the workings of the natural world, faithfully drawing upon the findings of environmental researchers. In this all-camp lecture, Allmann will share examples of her work and perspectives from a career devoted to conveying the "splendid obscurity" of native species and wild places. Featured will be selected readings from her award-winning book "Far From Tame: Reflections from the Heart of a Continent," (University of MN Press, 1996); a collection of essays inspired by ecologist Denny Albert's map of landscape eco-regions of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
