Urban Renewal and the Waco Alliance of Mexican Americans, 1958-1973
Drawing on his forthcoming book, Strength in Unity: Lyndon Johnson, Bob Poage, and Federalism in Central Texas (Texas A&M Press, 2014), Bob Duke links federal funding received by local officials in Waco, Texas in the aftermath of a devastating tornado and chronic flooding to the emergence of dynamic leaders in the local Mexican American community.
