Student Programming Committees

Every HSSP student participates in a Student Programming Committee as part of their HSSP experience.  This gives students the opportunity to create programs and activities for their community that are fun and interesting to them. It also gives students experience in planning events, working as a team to accomplish goals, and a great way to make friends throughout the HSSP community! Each committee is advised by a Resident Advisor and supported by Peer Mentors to help students answer questions and utilize resources along the way.

There are six different committees that students will be placed in by ordered preference:

Social Identity and Awareness

Students at the HSSP NO H8 event - 2015

Are you interested in social justice and equality? The Social Identity and Awareness (SIA) committee seeks to empower HSSP students to recognize the role that social identities and issues play in our own lives, in healthcare, and beyond. By hosting events and discussions focused on diversity and social change, we work to ensure that all HSSP students feel included and welcome in our community!

Health and Wellness

HSSP students at the Miles for Mott 5k - 2017

If you're interested in staying fit and active, the Health & Wellness Committee is for you! We focus on creating opportunities for students to build and maintain their physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Our goal is to help students be balanced and healthy, so that they can maintain focus and clarity through their other academic and occupational aspirations.

Community Service

If you enjoy volunteering and community service, this committee is for you! Our committee creates opportunities for HSSP students to serve the surrounding community and learn more about civic engagement and personal responsibility. Many current members were active in community service opportunities prior to coming to the University of Michigan, and the Community Service committee gives them the opportunity to continue those activities or find new ways to serve. This committee will also serve as an organization point for other HSSP group service opportunities (Alternative Spring Break, Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, etc.)

Leadership and Development

Leadership and Development committee provides fun and engaging educational and professional development opportunities for the HSSP community. Our committee connects students with campus resources, brings in educational speakers and panels, and provides many opportunities for students to engage with the educational mission of HSSP. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to collaborate with other committees throughout the year in order to provide a well-rounded experience for the HSSP community as a whole.

Alumni and Student Outreach

If you enjoy communication and talking to prospective students, Alumni and Student Outreach is for you! Our committee works together to create opportunities for HSSP alumni and potential HSSP students to engage with the current program cohort. We work to create various approaches to connect with alumni and develop mentorship opportunities for current students. We also participate in events that promote our program to potential students who will gain and contribute the most to our community, such as Campus Days and other admissions-sponsored events.

Community Building

Students at the HSSP-sponsored dormal for Couzens Hall - 2015

If you enjoy planning big, fun events, consider our committee! The Community Building committee creates exciting programs to bring students together, such as Dormal, Lazer Tag, and many others. Through socials on and off-campus, Community Building works to create opportunities for memories, mingling, and friendships that make HSSP a small community within a large university.

Events Planning Council

The Events Planning Council (EPC) is an elected board and student representatives similar to a hall or student council. Students are elected to be in this committee, in addition to being in their normal committee (one of the six listed above). This group is given a budget each year to help fund HSSP community events and programs. EPC receives program proposals and reviews them for opportunities to fund and promote the events. Being a part of the EPC is a great way to gain more leadership experiences and a another way HSSPers can create the type of community they would like to be a part of.

HSSP's live-in student leaders provides support and mentorship for all HSSP residents, lead and/or coordinate program events, and help make HSSP a fun and supportive environment for students to live and learn.
