Agilent Q-TOF HPLC-MS
The Agilent Q-TOF has an ultra-high pressure HPLC system with a binary pump, an autosampler with thermostatic temperature control, two column modules capable of heating and cooling, and a diode array detector. The mass spectrometer is capable of being operated in either MS mode, or MS-MS mode. Compounds can be run by Electrospray or APCI, in both positive and negative ion mode.Small molecules can be mass measured to an accuracy of within 2 ppm in MS mode. In MS-MS mode, fragments can be mass measured to an accuracy of within 5 ppm. In addition to being able to do exact mass measurements on small molecules, this system also excels at running peptides, and also intact proteins.
Students who have a demonstrated need for the unique capabilities of this instrument can be trained to run their own samples. The usual training session taking 4 hours. Up to four students can attend the same training session to divide the cost. Please see billing rates on our Mass Spec page.
Please see billing rates for non-routine samples submitted to us to be run on the Q-TOF and student use of the instrument.
Please note that you can reserve a MAXIMUM TIME block of 2 hours from 8 AM to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. You may reserve longer blocks of time after 5 pm, and also on weekends.
Agilent 6230 TOF HPLC-MS
The Agilent 6230 TOF is available as a “walk-up” use instrument, with no time reservation required. It is capable of doing exact mass measurements on small orgranics, with an accuracy of 2 ppm. It is also capable of analyzing peptides and intact proteins.
There is no autosampler, only a manual injection valve for introducing samples.
Students who need to use this instrument should contact Jim Windak email@example.com to schedule a short training session. Please see billing rates on our mass spec page.
Bruker AutoFlex Speed MALDI-TOF
The Bruker AutoFlex Speed is a MALDI-TOF instrument capable of doing both Linear and Reflectron modes, with either positive or negative ion detection. It is suitable for analysis of peptides, intact proteins, and polymers. The instrument accepts a wide variety of Bruker sample plates, from the smaller 96 well plate to the larger 384 well plate. The software includes the Bruker poly tools package for polymer data analysis.
Shimadzu QP-2010 GCMS
The Shimadzu QP-2010 GC/MS is available for hands-on use by graduate students who need to run their own samples. It has a quadrupole mass spectrometer capable of unit mass resolution. The gas chromatograph is equipped with an autosampler and an auto-injector. The GC contains a 30 meter long DB-5 column with a 0.25 mm I.D. The injector can be used in either split or splitless modes.
Students who have a need to use this instrument should e-mail Jim Windak firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a 30-minute training session. You will also need to provide an account number to use for billing your access time. Please see billing rates.
Micromass AutoSpec Ultima Magnetic Sector Mass Spectrometer
The Micromass Ultima is a high resolution magnetic sector mass spectrometer that is capable of analyzing small organic molecules using EI CI or Electrospray. It is capable of doing both low resolution, full mass range scans as well as high resolution, exact mass measurements. The exact mass measurements are generally accurate to within a few PPM on positive ions for masses up to 1500 daitons.
