The UMMAA Brown Bag Lecture Series is pleased to present an online lecture by Annika Kirscheneder, PhD student in classical archaeology at Freie Universität Berlin (FUB), Germany, on Thursday, November 16,  12-1 p.m. Please join us for "House Inventories in Pompeii" via the Zoom link below.

Being entirely buried by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the state of preservation of Pompeii is considerably better than that of other ancient sites. The houses, in particular, have always been of great interest to researchers. However, the small finds found in the houses and used in everyday life came to the attention of researchers only in recent years. For this talk, Annika will present the small find catalogs for two Pompeian houses: the Casa del Fauno (VI 12, 2) and Casa di Giulio Polibio (IX 13, 1-3). She is particularly interested in the function of small finds within their rooms. Which rooms can be evaluated better, and which are more challenging to interpret? Is it possible to interpret and find assemblages in rooms to the extent that scenarios can be reconstructed? These and other questions will be discussed in more detail in this talk.
