Shinobu Kitayama was named the recipient of The Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) Daniel M. Wegner Theoretical Innovation Prize. According to SPSP, the Prize honors the author of an "article or book chapter judged to provide the most innovative theoretical contribution to personality and social psychology within a given year." Kitayama won the prize based on his work:
