Abstract:
This talk will serve several functions. If you are interested in electrochemical technologies like batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers, this talk will give you a brief primer on what 'electrochemistry' is in general. An emphasis will be made on convincing you that as applied physicists, you already know more electrochemistry than you think. If you already know what electrochemistry is, this talk will then highlight some general open questions on the topics of renewable energy conversion/storage. If you are already interested in renewable energy, then this talk will try to convince you to join our group. An assortment of data spanning current-potential curves, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy will be presented to give some flavors of past, current, and future research directions.
