STEM & Biomedical

Programs listed below typically provide funding for students interested in pursuing careers in STEM fields. The first three provide scholarships for sophomores and juniors while the remaining opportuntities help fund graduate study and research.

Programs & Applications

U-M STEM Research Career Award

Award for highly qualified sophomores and juniors who plan to pursue a PhD or MD/PhD and research career in a STEM field. 

Goldwater Scholarship

Support for highly qualified STEM students who plan to pursue a PhD and research career in these fields. 
Apply via U-M STEM RCA.

Astronaut Scholarship

Scholarship for sophomores and juniors in any STEM field planning research careers. Apply via U-M STEM RCA.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

A three-year annual stipend, plus opportunities for international research and professional development.

Churchill Scholarship

Full funding for any graduate program at the University of Cambridge.  

Beckman Scholars Program

Program for exceptional transfer students who intend to graduate with honors in Chemistry or Biology.

STEM Scholarships & U-M Nomination

Several of the scholarships below require endorsement or nomination from the University of Michigan. This means students first apply to ONSF to be considered as a U-M nominee. Top candidates for U-M endorsement will be invited to interview with the corresponding U-M committee. Candidates selected for endorsement will then work with ONSF to complete the final application before national deadlines.
