On Campus Resources

Career Center

The Career Center offers a variety of services such as resume advising and reference letter forwarding that are very helpful for students embarking on a Washington semester.

We suggest that students have professors, GSIs and others submit their references for the MIW program to the Career center; they can then be forwarded as needed for internship searches as well as for other needs in the future.

Sweetland Center for Writing

The Sweetland Center for Writing offers one-to-one writing support with an experienced peer or faculty consultant at any stage of writing, from getting started to final revisions - and its online writing support service, the OWL, is available to MIW students while they are in DC preparing their research papers. The Research Seminar that students take while in DC qualifies for upper level writing credits.

Newnan Advising Center

Students interested in MIW and other off campus programs should plan a roadmap of coursework each semester to accommodate the variety of programs available.  The Newnan Center is in Angell Hall for LSA students, and collaborate with advisors in other schools as needed regarding a variety of campus programs.

UofM Off Campus Housing

Students who spend a semester in Washington must make appropriate housing plans for the year so that they are not committed to a lease (which is why early admission is advised).  The University Off Campus Housing offers listings that match students to available term or monthly leases.  There is a resource on the MIW Ctools site where students can connect with other Washington students to plan living arrangements.

Some students have used Facebook Marketplace to sublet their apartments or find places when they return from DC.  Others use Craigslist.
