Marty was a long time supporter of Michigan in Washington through her membership on our advisory board, years of mentoring students, working on our 5th and 10th anniversary celebrations, as well as offering her services and exptertise as often as possible. She will be greatly missed by the program and all of those that had the good fortune to know Marty.

Ms. Bindeman enrolled at the University of Michigan in 1965, having arrived sight unseen.  She
fell in love with the campus the first time she stepped foot on it. She graduated in 1969 with honors in history and went on to law school back home in Washington, D.C.  After graduation and passing the bar, she practiced law, all the time feeling that it wasn’t as creative a vocation as she desired.  She founded her own event planning company, Finishing Touches Events, LLC in 1978, and achieved the industry wide designation of CSEP (Certified Special Events Professional).

Ms. Bindeman served on the board of the Alumni Club of Washingon, D.C.  for several years, the executive committee for Michigan’s Alumni Association for three years, and for four years
the Visiting Committee of LS&A.  In 2001, she received the UM AlumniAssociation’s Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

For years, she coordinated the D.C. Alumni Club’s silent auction at the annual Congressional Breakfast, which raises money for UM scholarships.  She co-chaired the 60th anniversary of the breakfast in 2011, and did so again in 2012.

Ms. Bindeman is survived by her husband of 46 years, Stuart L. Bindeman and her daughters, Julie Bindeman Belgard (David Belgard) and Jennifer Bindeman; three grandchildren, Nate, Jordan and Ryan Belgard.
