Winter 2013 MIW Students with Governor Rick Snyder at Congressional Breakfast in DC

Students in the Winter 2013 MIW cohort attended the 62nd annual Congressional Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency near Capitol Hill in Washington DC on Wednesday, March 13.

The Congressional Breakfast is the premier alumni event in Washington, D.C. It has been held every year for 62 years.  It brings together local alums, people from all U of M campuses, members of Congress from Michigan and their delegates, as well as corporate sponsors that have interests in Michigan (e.g., Ford, GM, DTE Energy, etc.)

The breakfast is also the main fundraising event for the local DC alumni club which supports one DC student every year to go to UM with a four-year $25,000 scholarship.

The event generally draws more than 300 people.  Steve Grafton from the Alumni Association was the Master of Ceremonies.  President Mary Sue Coleman made brief remarks and the keynote speaker was Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.  A silent auction followed the meal and speakers.
