Second-year doctoral student Lucy Chiang was recently awarded the Rackham International Student Fellowship and the Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship. This award assists outstanding international students and the Chia-Lun Low Fellowship assists outstanding students in Rackham programs who have earned a previous degree from a university in Taiwan. For the 2017-18 academic year, six Chia-Lun Lo Fellowships were available with an award of $10,000 each.

This funding will allow her to incorporate her research in her future dissertation and finish her qualifying paper. Lucy intends to use her award to conduct her research by returning to Taiwan in the summer where she will continue her qualifying paper of the syntax of right dislocation in Mandarin. Additionally, she is considering devoting some time to her future study on second language Mandarin learners in sluicing structures so that she could contribute to the theory of sluicing based on the empirical data.
