Matt-painted pottery from Salento (southeast Italy) has many particular traits, especially from the 8th century BCE onward, that has in the past led to hypotheses that local potters were influenced by non-local objects and people to produce vessels in new shapes and make use of new motifs. In this talk, I discuss the methods that can be used to evaluate the production methods used by ancient potters to determine the presence or absence of interaction between different communities of practice. The case study presented here considers pottery from Taranto, Italy and the area around Korçë, Albania.
