Doctoral Candidate in History
About
I'm interested in transnational fascism as an interwar phenomenon, in particular the flow of ideology, culture, aesthetics, and personages between Europe and Asia.
For my dissertation project, I plan to look at technocratic and artistic exchanges between the German and Japanese film industries in Manchukuo (1932-1945), Japan's modern settler-colonial state in Northeastern China.
Prior to enrolling at UM, I worked as a writer-editor. I wrote for 艺术界 LEAP, China's contemporary art magazine, and was an editor for the exhibition Cosmopolis #1.5 (Chengdu, 2018) presented by Mao Jihong Arts Foundation and Centre Pompidou.
I like to apply my historical interests to film projects. Recently, I completed a short about the Japanese postwar architecture movement known as Metabolism. It is called After Nature (2022), and was supported by a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
