Transfer to U-M History

Transfer to U-M History

The History Department at the University of Michigan welcomes transfer students into our major and various minors!

U-M History allows students to take and transfer courses from other institutions to U-M for major credit through the departmental approval process below. Transfer courses may be applied toward your major, but at least five courses must be taken in-residence in Ann Arbor or must qualify for in-residence credit. If you wish to minor, you will need to take at least four courses in-residence.

Interested in applying transfer credit to your major or minor? Be sure to save copies of the syllabi for all the history classes you took at your previous institution.

We encourage prospective transfer students to explore the History Department Transfer Guide. For additional information, please contact hist.advising@umich.edu or make an appointment with Professor Brian Porter-Szücs (link here to make an appointment; appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance).
