Josh White
Executive Communications at Amazon

Josh White works in Executive Communications at Amazon, which he joined in February 2021. Prior to Amazon, Josh worked at The Washington Post for more than 22 years as a reporter and editor. Josh started as a summer intern at The Post in 1998, a few weeks after graduating from Michigan. For six years he reported about crime in Virginia, where he was one of the lead reporters on the Washington-area sniper case and witnessed two executions by electric chair. From 2004 to 2008, Josh covered the Pentagon, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, military criminal justice, and the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay; he twice embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq. Josh then worked as a regional investigative reporter focusing on law enforcement, including tracking the “East Coast Rapist” and a school teacher’s 30-year trail of abuse. From 2012 to 2016, he was Education editor, guiding projects including The Post's college sexual assault survey and the Rolling Stone/U-Va. gang-rape allegations. He was America Desk editor from 2017 through 2020, overseeing national coverage of mass shootings, natural disasters, Puerto Rico's struggle to recover after Hurricane Maria, the opioid epidemic, the coronavirus pandemic, the national racial reckoning after George Floyd's death and immigration policy. As a reporter, Josh contributed to The Post’s coverage of the Virginia Tech massacre, which won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news, and was on teams in 2005 and 2006 that were Pulitzer finalists for coverage of Abu Ghraib and the war on terrorism. As an editor, he worked with reporters who were Pulitzer finalists in 2019 and 2020 for coverage of U.S. murder trends and the mass shootings in El Paso, Tex., and Dayton, Ohio. Josh grew up in the Boston area and has a political science degree from Michigan, where he was editor of the Michigan Daily. He lives in Arlington, Va., with his wife and two daughters.
