Transfer Credit

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Michigan welcomes transfer students into our major and minor degree programs!

The Department of Anthropology allows students to take and transfer courses from other institutions to UM for prerequisite, major credit, and minor credit through the approval process described below. Transfer courses may be applied toward your major, but at least 20 of your total credits for the major must be completed in residence. The only restrictions to transfer credit include the core courses in the anthropological sub-fields, and the 400 level requirement, which typically need to be taken in residence. Some exceptions may apply, in consultation with a departmental advisor. Likewise, the undergraduate advisors welcome the opportunity to evaluate anthropology coursework for prospective students.
