Fall 2018 Anthropology Graduate Program applications are now open through December 15, 2017.

Michigan's Anthropology Ph.D. Program takes an average of 7 years to complete. We do not offer a terminal Master's degree program.

FLAS Fellowships Reminder

The FLAS application deadline is January 15, 2018 (11:59 p.m. EST). When completing the application, please list Katia Kitchen ( as the contact for Anthropology admissions so that your graduate application will be uploaded to your FLAS application.

Applicants from Puerto Rico Impacted by Hurricane Maria

Prospective applicants living in Puerto Rico who are impacted by Hurricane Maria and are unable to submit their Anthropology Graduate Program application by the December 15th deadline can mail or email their completed hard copy application (including official transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation) so that it is received by Rackham Graduate School (Graduate Admissions, 0120 Rackham Bldg, 915 E. Washington Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1070 or by Monday, January 15th. Please let Katia Kitchen, the admissions coordinator, ( know before December 15th, that you would like to take advantage of the extended deadline and are in need of the paper version of the application and application instructions.

Also, if you reside in Puerto Rico and desire a need-based fee waiver, please contact Rackham Admissions at You are advised to submit your fee waiver request, with “Fee Waiver for Puerto Rican Applicant” in the subject line. There is up to a 10-day response-time on fee waiver requests. Submit your fee waiver request for approval before submitting your graduate application. We hope that these options will help alleviate some of your concerns.
