Period II: Late Drop
Weeks 4 through Last Day of Class (Fall and Winter)
Weeks 3 through Last Day of Class (Spring and Summer)
The deadline to submit your request is 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the last day of class (please note that this is the last day of class as defined by the Registrar, not the day you take your final exam), but we urge you to submit earlier in case you need assistance.
W's (withdrawal notation) are posted for courses dropped during this period, regardless of the reason for the drop. Please also note that classes that have already ended or have been graded cannot be dropped and that minicourses might have different deadlines (if so, that information is available in the Course Guide).
For students in their first full semester (i.e., Fall or Winter) at U-M - Ann Arbor: If a student is dropping an individual class(es), the W(s) are expunged from the official transcript after the term is completed but will remain on the unofficial transcript. However, if a first-term student is withdrawing from all classes, that would be considered a term withdrawal and would be noted on the student's official transcript.
How to Request a Late Drop:
- From your Backpack/Registration page in Wolverine Access, select the DROP tab at the top of your screen.
- Select the class, click "Drop." You will receive an error message. This is normal. Next to the error message you will need to click the button that says "Request Late Drop."
- Answer the questions and click "Submit Request" at the bottom.
- Click "OK" on the confirmation page. You will also receive a confirmation email.
How to Track the Progress of Your Late Drop Request:
Once you've completed the steps above, your request to drop will be shared with those who need to approve it. The class is not officially dropped until all approvals are granted, but you can track the progress of your request in Wolverine Access. We recommend that you continue to attend class until your drop has been finalized.
Watch your email: Under certain circumstances, you may need to meet with your instructor or an academic advisor to complete the process. When the drop is completed, you will receive an email confirmation from the Registrar.
