Prospective Students

How does a person’s gender affect their place in the family, the economy, and politics? How do art, language, and ideology convey meaning about the status of women and men in society? How do the experiences of women vary by class, race, nationality, and sexual orientation, and how have those experiences changed across time and place?

Questions like these are central to Women’s and Gender Studies at Michigan. Drawing from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, Women’s and Gender Studies offers a diverse, interdisciplinary curriculum that challenges students to consider the world around them through a feminist lens. Faculty members are at the forefront of their respective fields, and work closely with students to develop individual interests and projects.

Women’s and Gender Studies students develop critical thinking, research, writing, and organization skills through coursework and real-world practica. Alumni pursue any number of careers opportunities after graduation, and remain a vital part of our community even after leaving campus.
