Major: Communication & Media
Hometown: East Los Angeles, California
Where did you transfer from? UCSB and ELAC
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? Michigan was continuously listed as one of the best schools to transfer into, so I thought I’d give it a shot!
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? If you’re not planning on going to grad school, prioritize having fun. There’s so many resources and experiences that are only found in undergrad - that really can’t be found in post-grad life. So take advantage and don’t worry so much about having the highest GPA.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I’m a naturally pretty social person, so I just spoke to people in my classes. But when I was craving people that were more like *me*, I spent a ton of time in organizations that were close to my identities and the Transfer Student Center.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? LSA has such great funding for their study abroad programs. So if you’re someone that’s set on doing some courses in another country, LSA is for you!
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew how quickly time flew. I know it’s cliche, but it’s true. Had I known, I definitely would have done my first year very differently.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I love to talk, and I had previously switched my major 6 times. I knew it was time for me to make a choice. With those two pieces of information, Communication and Media seemed the most practical.
