Arthur "Skip" Lupia, Hal R. Varian Collegiate Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan has been named head of the Directorate of Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences at the National Science Foundation (NSF). "Arthur Lupia takes leadership of a directorate whose research portfolio touches on major challenges our nation faces," said NSF Director France Córdova.

Professor Lupia examines how people make decisions when they lack information and in how they manage complex information flows. He draws from multiple scientific and philosophical disciplines and uses multiple research methods. His topics of expertise include information processing, persuasion, strategic communication, and civic competence.

We'll miss Skip around here for a few years, but we will look forward to his great work at NSF and to his return to Ann Arbor after his work there is done.
