MCSP welcomes first-year students from all schools and colleges within the University of Michigan. Apply to become a Michigan Community Scholar by completing the Michigan Learning Community Application as part of your Housing application. You may apply to two learning communities, ranking your first and second choices.
The Michigan Learning Community (MLC) Application opens at the same time as the Housing Application, February 1, 2024. Michigan Learning Communities review applications in the order of preference you indicate in your application. You will be contacted about the status of your applications to the Michigan Learning Communities starting in early April. Students may only be admitted to one residential Michigan Learning Community.
Any student who has been admitted in U-M may apply, even if they have not made their final decision on U-M and paid an enrollment deposit.
Please refer to U-M Housing website for additional information about housing.
For additional information, including FAQs, visit the Michigan Learning Communities (MLC) website.
Please note, MCSP has the University Housing office assign roommates in our community randomly. All students live together on the fourth floor of West Quad and get to know each other quickly. We know from many years of experience that random roommate assignment helps build a strong community, and MCSP students report every year that they appreciate the opportunity to make new friends!
(You can still indicate your roommate choices on the Housing application; if you decide not to accept your MLC placement, or are not accepted, then indicating roommate choices allows your preferences to be considered by Housing for traditional Housing options.)
