Professor Joe Masco examines the contemporary logics of crisis, theorizing a problem of political agency in the United States. Comparing the nuclear crisis and climate crisis, he considers the conservative nature of crisis-talk as a mode of political discourse, as well as the shifting terms of the social contract from the cold war to our present moment. Ultimately, what comes after crisis and what is the role of positive futurities in public life?
