The Doctoral Program in Anthropology and History at the University of Michigan is the only interdisciplinary program in Anthropology and History that seeks to institutionalize the ongoing dialogues that have energized both fields. The program provides a place of intimate intellectual and social community while also giving students the resources of two vibrant and large departments where they work on a diverse range of projects at the cutting edge of their fields, as well as engage in research that has consequences beyond the university. Our students have gone on to become intellectual leaders at universities and other institutions worldwide, forming a global community across cohorts.

Giving Opportunities
Anthrohistory Graduate Student Fund
The Anthrohistory Graduate Student Fund provides support to students in the PhD program. Funds have been used to purchase shared computers and equipment for the program's lounge, a collaborative space that has been successfully used to build and sustain community.
Conference travel support: While the Rackham Graduate School provides support for students to travel to one conference per year in which they are participating, Anthrohistory students would benefit from support to travel to a conference in which they would attend and learn.
Research support for PhD students: Anthrohistory students have a very small amount of funds available each year for research requests while the costs of the fieldwork associated with their dissertation research are high.
Emergency funding for PhD students: The Rackham Graduate School does provide some support for emergencies. It would greatly benefit the students to have funds available at the program level for the Director to provide as needed.
